SALON

artipoeus salon: art you experience

Just as the Artipoeus podcast takes listeners on a journey through contemporary art via storytelling and sound design, the Artipoeus Salon is a quarterly event (4X/year) that takes guests on an art journey through interactive, multi-media environments  to support and showcase a visual artist’s work, helping participants to *experience* art, rather than simply view it. Artipoeus Salon encourages interaction between the visual art and artists working in different media (z.b., writing, sound, movement), allowing art to inspire in the moment — to cross-pollinate, as it were — and create an entirely new entity that can last forever or only for one magical evening.

SALON #1: IF I SAID YOU HAD A BEAUTIFUL PAINTING WOULD YOU HOLD IT AGAINST ME
Artipoeus HQ Berlin
23 August 2019

Inspired by a recent trip to New Orleans and a Sunday night stroll down the infamous Bourbon Street, littered with the leftovers of weekend hedonism and hangers-on, Artipoeus asks what happens between the party and the dawn, the moment between what was and what will be — that most vulnerable of human moments — and who do we meet at the crossroads.

Jana Marie Cariddi is an American artist based in Berlin. She received her BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2015, and lived and worked in New Orleans before moving to Berlin. Her work has been exhibited in North America, Germany, and Japan and is included in several private collections.

Jana’s work is pervaded with the spirits of New Orleans, in all their forms: debauchery and desire, vanity and voodoo. Playing with notions of archetypical femininity, Cariddi’s work is infused with the sexuality, danger and loneliness behind the glitter and glitz of the Big Easy. Via painting, installation and wall painting, she creates an intersection where the rose-colored glasses of girl-hood and the sharp realities of woman-hood meet. Her work takes form in the imaginary worlds in between, devised to humorize, heal and counterbalance the mundane act of maturing, aging and identifying as female.
